Dr. Ashok Sunil Gavaskar

Dr. Ashok Sunil Gavaskar currently head of the department of ortho, trauma and spine surgery at Rela hospital, Chennai which is a 450 bedded tertiary care centre of international repute. He is one of the leaders in the field of joint replacement surgery and orthopedic trauma having performed over 4000 joint replacement surgeries and more than 10000 complex trauma related limb reconstructions. His work includes a major research component with involvement in both clinical and translational research. He also collaborates actively with IIT Madras for biomechanical research and AO trauma (AO foundation – Switzerland), AAOS and OTA (American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and Orthopedic Trauma Association – USA) for clinical research related activities. His projects have been awarded research grants, support and seed money from the AO foundation. He is also part of a very elite expert group under the AO foundation (AO TRAUMA – Asia Pacific Expert Group). The group along with engineers and designers is involved in innovating and designing newer state of the art orthopedic trauma implants based on unmet needs and advancements in surgical treatment across the globe.
Dr. Gavaskar is a member of the International advisory board for the Journal of American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (JAAOS) and a distinguished committee member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (Trauma committee). He also serves as one of the associate editors for the prestigious European Journal of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology (EJOST) and as a deputy editor (Trauma) for Indian Journal of Orthopedics (IJO). He had previously occupied honourable committee positions in various reputed international organisations including SICOT and the Asia Pacific Orthopedic Association (APOA).
Dr. Gavaskar’s clinical work and patient care has brought him several laurels over the years. He was honoured with the Emerging leaders award by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons in 2017. His biography is listed in the Who’s who in the world of medicine (2018) and his work was also recognised and honoured with the service excellence award by Times of India in 2021 and Best young Indian orthopedic surgeon award by the Economic times in 2022. He has published more than 60 international peer reviewed original research articles in several reputed journals and has contributed 7 book chapters till date. He was recognised as one of the seven most influential authors from India in the world of orthopedic trauma surgery in a peer reviewed publication in 2022. He is rated as one of the top 10 trauma experts and one of the top 30 joint reconstruction experts based on scientific contributions. He also trains fellows and mentors young trainees in the field of advanced trauma and joint replacement surgery.

Dr. Parthasarathy Srinivasan

Dr. Parthasarathy Srinivasan is currently Senior Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon and the head of Spine surgery at Rela hospital.
He specialises in Complex spine surgery and Deformity correction. With experience in more than 2000 Spine surgeries over the last 14 years, he has tremendous experience in surgeries for deformity, degenerative, traumatic and infective disorders of the spine. He is currently national level faculty for spine in the Association of spine surgeons of India (ASSI) and accredited national level faculty for AO Spine (International Spine Forum). He is regularly invited as faculty for both didactic and practical workshops in spine as well as live surgical demonstrations.
He has authored primarily as well as co authored multiple publications in both Spine as well as Orthopaedic trauma. He also works closely with Indian implants companies towards improving their understanding of spine implants and the needs of the surgeon.
During his fellowship training, he was awarded the prestigious APOA- APSS travelling fellowship for the year 2009. He also attended a 2 week observership in complex deformity corrective surgery at UC Davis, Sacramento in 2013.
He continues to be very active an interested in learning new techniques in minimal invasive and microsurgery as well as in teaching and mentoring young spine surgeons.
